Dr. Bonnie Kuehl

Bonnie is an independent scientist specializing in scientific communications including writing, strategy, and technical training. She also is an experienced research scientist, project manager, and bioinformatician. Bonnie’s experience has been gained in academia, biotechnology, and the pharmaceutical industry. She applies her excellent interpersonal skills coupled with cross-functional skills such as superior organizational ability, strategic interpretation of scientific information and techniques to a variety of strategic, operational and program areas.
Bonnie’s cross-functional skills were developed by her experiences as a research scientist, time spent on many committees, as well as a manager and liaison positions held in a pre-market biotechnology company. Bonnie is also the founder and manager of a growing consulting company. Her interest lies in understanding cellular regulation under stress conditions.
Her professional experience has included founding her own company, strategic interpretation of scientific data, developing data management systems and data analysis tools, managing a department of 12 scientists, technical writing and training, and professional relations. Bonnie’s interpersonal skills have made her an excellent communicator and interface both between companies and within departments. She has been President and a director and/or executive member on academic, non-profit and work-related committees throughout the past 20 years.
Academic training in biochemistry as well as cell and molecular biology are Bonnie’s strengths. She holds a PhD in Experimental Therapeutics/Cancer Biology, University of Toronto/Ontario Cancer Institute, and an Honours BSc in Biochemistry, University of Guelph. Bonnie has completed Post-doctoral Fellowships in the laboratories of Sir Professor David Lane, Scotland, U.K. and Dr. Silvia Bacchetti, McMaster University.
Bonnie is a dynamic individual who is equal parts administrator, facilitator, educator and scientist.
Dr. James W. E. Paterson

James Paterson is a research scientist with exceptional abilities in the operational and technological aspects of life sciences, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical industries. His specializations include bioinformatics and information technology applied to life sciences, technology diversification, scientific communications, life science health and safety and technical training. James has gained experience in academic laboratories, as well as in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. By applying his superior analytical skills, in combination with his ability to undertake detailed research in a variety of fields, he is able to provide concise, relevant details regarding complex problems.
James has developed his skills through both his scientific training as well as through life experience outside the industry. His scientific interest has been centred on the molecular genetics of human breast cancer and understanding the mechanisms by which cell control is lost. He has also held positions directing projects in the application of new technologies toward new and existing problems in life science in the biotechnology industry.
James professional experience includes management of a number of different research projects as well as those directed to new technologies. Additionally, he has managed groups of professional scientists, performed bioinformatic analysis, development of laboratory information management systems, development of custom robotics systems, identification of commercial product opportunities, serving as a Radiation Safety Officer, technical report writing, and managing collaborations. Further, James has held a number of roles in a variety of extra-industrial positions requiring leadership skills as well as instructional technique.
Coupled with James’s analytical abilities, his academic training provides an excellent skill set. His training includes cell and molecular biology and molecular genetics. He holds a PhD in Molecular Genetics (Breast Cancer) from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland and an Honours BSc in Molecular Biology and Genetics from the University of Guelph. Further, James has completed Post-Doctoral fellowships at McMaster University as well and holding technical posts at the Samuel Lunenfeld Research Institute and Mount Sinai Hospital.
James is a well rounded individual who enjoys applying skills he learns to all aspects of his life. As well as his professional career, James is an avid canoeist as well as enjoying nordic skiing. He spends much of his spare time organizing trips into the wilderness.
Dr. Fernanda Saraga
Fernanda is a scientific and medical communications specialist, who has extensive experience in medical writing, developing CE course content, medical and technical marketing documents and creating engaging and informative patient-focused materials. In addition, she has expertise in writing research articles, regulatory submissions, training and education manuals, and grant applications.
Fernanda has extensive experience in medical writing for pain, inflammation, hematology/oncology, respiratory, wound care, diabetes and dermatology therapeutic areas. She has also developed educational materials and communication pieces for therapeutic medical devices.
Fernanda’s scientific experience covers a broad range of subject areas. She holds a Ph.D. in Neuroscience and an Honours BSc in Physics from the University of Toronto. She completed her Post-Doctoral Fellowship in the Department of Cell and Systems Biology at the University of Toronto and has published several articles and a book chapter on the signaling properties of hippocampal interneurons.
Fernanda brings superior writing, analytical, organizational and research skills to every project. In addition, she is adept at extracting the most relevant and key messages from scientific and medical information. She also excels at translating medical information into lay language that is understandable and engaging for a patient audience.
Fernanda has lectured at international conferences, symposia, workshops and online webinars to a variety of healthcare practitioners. She also worked with clinicians to develop interesting and informative slide decks for conferences and training.
